Ask nearly any sexually active person and they’ll tell you – sometimes you need to spice up your sex life. You have to make sure it doesn’t get boring. In fact, keeping the excitement high in the bedroom is an important factor in maintaining a healthy and mutually enjoyable relationship. The concept of excitement (and a touch of taboo) is the driving force behind Victoria’s Secret, Frederick’s of Hollywood, and countless suppliers of adult toys, books, and videos. There’s nothing wrong with any of this. It’s generally considered healthy sexual behavior.
But what happens when a new nightie and fresh batteries in the vibrator aren’t enough to get the excitement back? Sometimes things go a lot further than planned, and the results can be serious. Sexual activity can go too far, and can become dangerous or even fatal. Let’s look behind the scenes and discuss some of the dangerous sex games that people play.
Fear-heightened Arousal
This is probably the most common of the dangerous sex games going on in bedrooms across the country. It can start simply enough, with typical role-playing. One partner may pretend to be a burglar, forcing his way into the room with foul intent, or a pirate bent on kidnapping and plundering. At this level, there is no harm done. But the general idea here is that the element of fear, while controlled, serves to heighten the arousal of one or both partners through fantasizing. The adrenaline rush, accelerated heartbeat, and increased oxygen intake get the body pumped up and ready for action. It is when this type of play goes further that things become dangerous.
